Overview

The Dryad Community Meeting is an annual event for researchers, journal editors, librarians, data managers, publishers, funders and other individuals or organizations with a stake in the preservation and availability of the scientific and medical data associated with the published literature.

The theme of this year’s meeting is "Taking a closer look at data," featuring a keynote presentation from Brian Nosek of the Center for Open Science and an Emerging Issues panel discussion about data review.

Keynote

Dr. Brian Nosek Dr. Brian Nosek is Professor, Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia and Director, Center for Open Science. The Center for Open Science is a nonprofit technology startup that aims to increase openness, integrity, and reproducibility of scientific research. Nosek is also co-founder of the widely known Project Implicit. He received early career awards from the International Social Cognition Network (ISCON) and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI).

08:30 Light breakfast reception 09:00 Dryad 101 - Meredith Morovati (Executive Director, Dryad) An overview of the Dryad Digital Repository and the roles of members, partner journals, sponsors, curators and researchers in safeguarding the data underlying the scientific and medical record. The presentation will cover fundamentals such as the integrated submission of manuscripts and data, as well as new and upcoming features and services. 10:00 Break 10:15 Community Perspectives Forum (watch video) The Community Perspectives Forum provides an opportunity for partner journals and member organizations to exchange knowledge and share their experiences with data archiving and publishing.

11:30 Business Meeting The Business Meeting is an annual opportunity for Dryad's members to elect the Board of Directors, vote on amendments to the Bylaws, and discuss the health and direction of the organization with the Board of Directors. The business portion of the meeting is open to all attendees, though voting is restricted to member organizations. 12:00 Catered lunch 1:00 Keynote (watch video) Dr. Brian Nosek (Center for Open Science and the Department of Psychology, University of Virginia) 2:00 Break 2:15 Emerging Issues Forum: Data Review (watch video) A panel discussion to share the knowledge and experiences of the community with various forms of data review, and to consider whether and how data review may be more widely adopted by Dryad’s community in the future to improve the value of data for reuse.
